Be kind!

04 June 2009

What is kind? I have for sure told my son on several occasions when he was little to play nice & be kind. What did I mean? What is kind? As he grew older it was very important for me that he stood his ground, that he didn’t let anyone hit him without self defence. Now he is 16 years old I am currently back on being kind again…maybe it has something to do with his height; 1,97 cm???

Kind is something of a between word, it can be used as a simple description but then again it can be used when you don’t have anything better to say. Apparently there is also an unwritten understanding that kind people get stamped on. The word kind is equal to stupid. I believe it is misused!

Kind people don’t get ahead in life. They let other people treat them badly in some way and sometimes even are more likely to be used by others. Well???

This is the biggest misconception ever! Kind people in my own personal view are the ones to be recon with. Kind people tell the truth no matter what. Kind people don’t let their own egos get the best of them and kind people have your best interest at heart! Whatever that might be!

One of my all times personal favourite books is called; “The art of being kind.” The correct translation in Swedish is “Konsten att vara snäll.” The author is Stefan Einhorn, he is a professor of molecular oncology at Karolinska Institutet and a medical doctor specialised in oncology. He is also the chairman of the ethics council at Karolinska Institutet.

Stefans thoughts and words are a true inspiration for me personally as for so many others and it is with the greatest admiration and pleasure I announce that Stefan is one of three lecturers at Academedias day of inspiration the 15th of October in Malmö!
